Perhaps no artist gets more mileage out of their own name than the west coast's Blu, and his new single with longtime collaborator Exile only solidifies that fact. "Love is Blu" is the lead single for the duo's forthcoming album, Love (the) Ominous World. Listen below:
While Blu has remained an incredibly prolific artist in his own right, with this being his fifth project to release in 2024 alone, it's his first time working with Exile since the critically acclaimed Miles in 2020. It will be their fourth full-length album, the first of which dates back to 2007 with the classic Below the Heavens.
In addition to the reunion of Blu and Exile, "Love is Blu" marks the return of Aloe Blacc, a name who has appeared throughout the duo's discography, but traces back to the origins of Exile's record label, Dirty Science. Before he was asking folks to wake him up when it's all over, Blacc was one half of Emanon, a project he started with Exile during Dirty Science's inception. Though his appearance on the single is more of a vocal embellishment on the hook than a proper feature, it represents a confluence of longstanding relationships coming together for yet another project.
Love (the) Ominous World is set to release September 20 via Dirty Science.
