Blondie are back with a new Johnny Marr-penned single, "Spectral Eyes," out today as a first taste from their newly announced 12th studio album High Noon, out February 26 next year via BMG. The track previously appeared as a B-side to the single "Spiral Cities" from Marr's 2018 album Call the Comet, but now comes dressed in classic Blondie sonics with Debbie Harry making it her own.
Listen below:
Sessions for High Noon began in NYC four years ago with producer John Congleton, who also worked on the previous Blondie record, 2017's Pollinator, and completed later on with producer David Wrench. Drummer Clem Burke, who had been an essential part of the Blondie sound for 50 years, sadly passed away last April, making High Noon a particularly poignant recording.
Besides Johnny Marr, High Noon also features contributions from Glen Matlock, Beirut's Zach Condon, Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe of Lucius, and Venezuelan drummer and percussionist Ismael Baiz, who guests on "Tambo Tambo."
Writing in a press release, Debbie Harry describes the album as "classic Blondie" and "an amalgamation of all our different influences and eras into something new," adding "This music feels grounded in the present, shaped by who we are and how we're living now."
"It’s been a long, strange ride, and somehow here we are with another Blondie album," adds bandmate Chris Stein. "I’m not sure what the fuck I’m supposed to say at this point, except that we're incredibly grateful for all your support over the years."
