Big Red announce 'Big Sur,' share "Mission St."

Big Red, the guitar-based side project of The Orchestra (For Now) and solo writing vehicle for front man Joseph Scarisbrick, are coming out with their debut album, Big Sur. Released independently on October 30, the new record features singles "Isn't He Funny?" and "Mission St.," which is out today. The band announce the news alongside new dates for a UK tour, which features an appearance at End of the Road festival.

Listen to "Mission St." below:

Scarisbrick debuted with the seven-piece London prog band The Orchestra (For Now) back in 2024, drawing buzz from winning the 2024 Green Man Festival’s Rising Act award. While working on the band's two EPs — Plan 75 and Plan 76 — in 2025, he began writing solo material separate from the band's orchestral sound and leaning more into guitar rock and hardcore. With fellow bandmates Charlie Hancock (drums) and Millie Kirby (bass/vocals), he pulled aside to form Big Red.

Big Sur is an album about longing, according to the band via press release. Written between London, UK and Santa Cruz, CA and recorded live in Devon, UK in early 2025, it discusses memory, distance, and personal growth.

"Mission St.", which follows last month's release of "Isn't He Funny?," is "a sad song masquerading as an upbeat loud banger," according to Scarisbrick. "It is about seeing someone disappear right in front of you, and having no ability to bring them back," he added. "It's about a very specific person from my childhood. I don't know how he is doing but I hope he is ok."

The band will also embark on a UK tour beginning next month. Tickets are available now.
