Best Friends Forever Festival returns with Rilo Kiley, Jawbreaker, and Minus The Bear as headliners

Earlier today, the Best Friends Forever Festival announced that it will return to the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center this October for a three-day concert series. This will be the second year the emo/underground alternative festival will bring artists to Nevada, according to SPIN. Jawbreaker, Minus The Bear, and the newly-reunited Rilo Kiley are billed as the event's headliners, and a fourth band, indicated by several question marks, is implied to be revealed soon.

The Best Friends Festival will take place from October 10 to 12.

Reunion is one of the main themes of this program. Rilo Kiley added the festival to their ever-growing list of performances for their upcoming reunion tour, where they will be playing together for the first time since 2008. The punk rockers Jawbreaker reunited in 2017 after a 21-year-long hiatus beginning in 1996, and they've been touring and attending a couple festivals since. They've taken a brief pause in 2023, and the Best Friends Forever Festival will be the first time they'll be playing together in two years, according to SPIN. Likewise, Minus The Bear had not put on a show since 2018. According to the festival's poster, the band will be playing their 2005 record Menos El Oso in full.

Yet, the Best Friends Forever Festival is also a moment for sharing goodbyes. Texas band Mineral will play their final set together at the show before breaking up for the second time. In a statement given to Pitchfork today, Mineral's lead singer Chris Simpson commented:

"Lately we’ve been feeling like maybe it was done and had been adequately and organically wrapped up, but we’re delighted for the opportunity to put a more thoughtful and intentional bow on what has been one of the more passionate and meaningful endeavors of our individual and collective lives.”

The band previously reunited in 2014 after initially breaking up in 1998.

Other special performances planned for the festival include Pedro The Lion's celebration of their 30th anniversary, Bear Vs. Shark playing their 2005 record Terrorshark in full, and Cursive performing both records Cursive's Domestica (2000) and The Ugly Organ (2003).

Superchunk, Tigers Jaw, Knapsack, Speedy Oritz, Wednesday, Texas Is The Reason, and Hey Mercedes will also make appearances.

Tickets for the Best Friends Forever Festival will go on sale tomorrow, March 5, at 10 am PST (1 pm ET). The festival offers three tiers of three-day packages: a General Admission pass that begins at $249, a VIP pass with an initial price of $349, and a VIP and Thursday Night Festival Kickoff pass of $385. Tickets can be purchased on their website.
