Beirut release new song "Caspian Tiger" and announce first tour since 2019

Beirut – the muscial project spearheaded by singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Zach Condon – has released a brand new song, "Caspian Tiger". The song is said to be from an as-yet-unannounced forthcoming Beirut LP, which would follow up last year's Hadsel.

The song is out now on Condon's own Pompeii Records, and comes with a music video by filmmaker Jan Pivoňka. Watch below:

Interestingly, the song was originally conceived to soundtrack a piece by Swedish circus artists Kompani Giraff.

Condon had this to say about the track:

"When I was first approached about writing a soundtrack for a circus, a certain amount of 'Elephant Gun' era trauma initially came rushing up. I had been pigeon-holed for years as a whimsical circus waif, full of sepia-toned images of penny farthings and perhaps lion tamers with handlebar moustaches. It couldn’t have been further from how I pictured the music I was making. I had been quietly avoiding the subject for years ... Ironic then, that I found Kompani Giraff’s project so enticing, and writing something for acrobats to perform so enjoyable. “Caspian Tiger” was one of the first songs I wrote for the new album, with images in mind of the poor animals caged or fighting in Roman colosseums.

Additionally, Condon will be heading out on a small tour in Europe next May, visiting the Netherlands, Belgium, and England. It will be the first proper Beirut tour since canceling shows back in 2019 due to health issues.
