Ambient/drone/electronic composer Loscil (aka Scott Morgan) is back with a brand new album. Lake Fire, out May 2 via kranky, follows two collaborative efforts with fellow sound experimentalist Lawrence English (last year’s Chroma and 2023’s Colours of Air), and is said to be "inspired by the tension within the cycle of destruction and rejuvenation."
You can check out both of new singles – "Arrythmia" and "Spark" – below.
Lake Fire was originally composed as a "suite" for electronics and an ensemble, most of the original sessions were scrapped, leaving only "Ash Clouds" to represent that initial conception. The rest were turned into the remaining songs on the album through reshaping and remixing.
According to press nots, the album is described as being "impressions from a road trip into the mountains marking a personal half-century milestone, surrounded by wildfires and dense smoke."
In addition to those aforementioned collaborative records, Morgan has certainly kept busy under the Loscil name. Since 2020, he has released six projects under the alias, includng 2023's Umbel.
