Brittany Howard, frontwoman to Grammy-award winning blues rock band Alabama Shakes, performed at Nashville's Basement East last night with Kumite, her new hardcore band.
This was the first time the band played together live.

Alongside original material, Kumite covered American Nightmare's "AM/PM," in which another member of the band was the lead vocalist.
A video posted to X (formerly Twitter) documenting the performance can be watched below:
Last night's show, announced in November alongside the formation of the hardcore band, was part of a benefit gig she organized for Nashville Launch Pad, the Second Harvest Food Bank, and Southern Movement Committee, according to Stereogum. Snōōper, Inner Peace, and Second Spirit were also on the evening's lineup.
Prior to the show, Howard posted a statement to Instagram reflecting on the purpose of the event, the Southern DIY hardcore scene, and the recent tragedy of the LA wild fires. She wrote,
"Sunday night is about bringing people together who support a message of peace, love and inclusion. To be honest, it's less about a concert or making a statement musically and more about uniting people in a safe place during these crazy times we are living in."
