The Olympics closing ceremony in Paris on 11 August, gathered a variety of French artists, such as indie rock band Phoenix, and electronic music duo Air, to perform in front of an audience of Olympic medallists and fans.
One of the songs performed was Kavinky's breakthrough hit "Nightcall", featured in the soundtrack of the 2011 movie Drive, starring Ryan Gosling as a stunt driver in the city of Los Angeles (where the next Olympic Games will be held.)
The French DJ's performance of "Nightcall" must have come across a lot of new listeners as it has now become the most shazamed song in a single day - racking up nearly 7 million shazams in total so far. (Tones and I's 2019 international success "Dance Monkey", remains the most shazamed song of all time with almost 70 million at the moment.)
Not only did Kavinsky break a record after the closing ceremony, but Billie Eilish also set a new record of her own. "BIRDS OF A FEATHER", from her new album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT (produced by her brother, FINNEAS, who has an album on the way), has earned her first No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts. The sudden surge in popularity is related to her performance of the track in the LA28 Olympic Handover, as she was one of the main artists confirmed for the event.
Eilish proudly shared the news on her Instagram stories:
This isn't her only spot at the top 10 charts right now; Charli XCX's "Guess", featuring Eilish, debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Global 200, and at No. 1 on UK Official Singles Chart top 100.
