Today, the Leeds-based punk rock band Adult DVD have announced their debut album, Adult DVD, out September 25 via Fat Possum Records. Known for their irreverent, fry-the-speaker sound, witty lyricism, and explosive live performances, the sextet follow up their debut announcement with "Cowboy on Aisle Three," their glitchy, anthemic new single. The band are also currently on tour, hitting up festivals and headline dates in Europe and the UK.

"I came up with the idea when I was in Lidl," says lyricist and vocalist Harry Hanson about the new single via press release. "I’m sure everyone has thought, ‘Imagine if I just went nuts now,’ to get out of doing the big shop."

Adult DVD broke out in 2023 with their debut EP Fountain of Youth, which featured "Bill Murray," a groovy, electric, synth punk track fretting over mistaking Tom Hanks for Bill Murray. Since then, the concepts for songs have gotten sillier, and the accompanying music has gotten louder, consolidating Adult DVD as a band that can rile up a crowd without getting too serious.

"We don't take things too seriously," synth-player Greg Lonsdale explains. The new record aims to sketch amusing caricatures of absurdist figures like 5G conspiracy theorists, cowboys on the brink of a breakdown, to regular British outsiders, all while fueling their nonsense with amped-out guitar and synth melodies. "The lyrics have got sillier, the songs have got sillier," he continued. "We make music for people to enjoy, so let them have a laugh."

Adult DVD are currently on the summer festival circuit in Europe and the UK supporting their new record. Later this fall, they'll be embarking on a headline tour across the UK and Ireland, supported by Turnspit, Lttl Mort, Kiosk, Group A.D., and Silverwingkiller. Tickets are available now.
