West Coast rapper Blu seems to have fully recovered from the label drama that surrounded his last commercial release, No York. It’s no secret that his output has been a little rocky since then, but he seems to be back in full form on this new track from his forthcoming double album, “The Return.”
Lyrically, this song is a bit of a trip down memory lane for Blu, talking about his come-up, and the surroundings he grew up in. I love the fat, compressed, chunky production on this track, too. It’s got kind of a weird, psychedelic quality to it that I like. I feel like I’m listening to this track on a really old cassette or something. The string and horn samples come through really nicely, too. The singing toward the back-end of this track is pretty wonderful, too.
Again, this track is gonna be one of many on a double album titled Good To Be Home. I’m expecting an immense amount of ambition on this one. I mean, it’s a double album, right?!?! Enjoy!
Look for it on May 19th via Nature Sounds.
