After releasing one of the last year’s most criminally underrated and overlooked records, the melancholy and intelligent A Church That Fits Our Needs, orchestral folk group Lost in the Trees are gearing up for their third album, Past Life. They’ve now released the first single from it, “Rites,” which definitely pares down the group’s aesthetic to a few necessary components, leaving behind much of the knotty melodies and challenging structures of Church. It’s a good 3-minute slice of folky pop music, closing on an increasingly ominous question: “Are you sitting down?”
Past Life will see release on February 18, via ANTI-.
