The Bad Plus has been putting out records for over ten years now, and jazz has always remained a cornerstone of the band’s style during that time. However, it’s not like this trio is just a jazz project. While the band unarguably delivers improvisational music performed with drums, keys, and upright bass, elements from other genres always make their way into the music. It’s like the Bad Plus sneaks them in under the cover of darkness, referencing everything from rock to electronic music in their ever-growing discography.
“Seven Minute Mind” is a track from the trio’s latest album, Made Possible, which is out now via eOne. Though the song is 1:30 shy of seven minutes, that doesn’t stop them from performing an impressive, multiphase song with altered time signatures, some buildups, and a stellar piano solo.
