There’s not much about Mr. Mac DeMarco’s outward appearance that says “rock star”–even as he’s on stage, casually singing the songs he’s written in front of his 3-piece band. But it’s something the ex-Makeout Videotape frontman is well aware of. In fact, I’d say it’s something he plays up a bit given his inconspicuous manner of dress and unassuming attitude.

It’s surprising that under all this is a sweet voice and a pretty strong melodic sensibility, which are both on display with the track “My Kind of Woman.” The track features some seductive guitar playing, and a lovely vocal that conveys the romance of the song perfectly.

Mac Demarco’s latest album is titled 2, and it’s out now via Captured Tracks.
