Majeure- "Solar Maximum"

Majeure, a.k.a. Pittsburgh artist and one half of synthesizer-worshiping rock band Zombi, has a new album on the way. Going by the name Solar Maximum, the record is looking at an October 16 release date via Temporary Residence. Check out the sprawling, eleven-and-a-half minute long title cut above.

Fans of Zombi won’t miss their minimalistic synth lines that pay homage to old-school progressive electronic music, nor will they miss the repetitive drum patterns, linearly building structures, and 70s’ sci-fi film soundtrack aesthetic. In fact, “Solar Maximum” isn’t wildly different from much of Zombi’s material, but that’s not to suggest that isn’t as rewarding. The song’s loyalty to Vangelis-esque soundscapes keeps it feeling appropriately spacey, yet the simplistic drum beat grounds it with a danceable edge, rounding out what ends up being an engaging journey through the retro-futuristic world Majeure’s music paints.
