Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, The Fresh & Onlys. These names stand out as leaders of the garage rock resurgence of the past couple years and while garage rock certainly never died out, these acts are often cited for bringing the raucous and ferocious sounds of the garage back into the spotlight. But while the most au courant garage rock bands are known for their intensity, there are plenty of artists who enjoy exploring mellower music in their metaphorical (or in some cases literal) garage. Enter Gap Dream’s latest single “Generator.” The song is lazy in the best possible way, electing to unfurl its melody at its own pace. Matching the relaxed tone of his song is frontman Gabriel Fulvimar’s laconic vocal delivery enhanced with very full-sounding reverb. Perfectly punctuated with small touches that add a lot including the very brief but highly melodic solo at 2:40, this is the sort of song that hands you a frosty cold one and offers to watch the sun set with you.
The single will be released on October 2nd through the venerable Suicide Squeeze Records.
