Ian Watkins, Lost Prophets singer and convicted sex offender, killed in prison

Disgraced Lostprophets lead singer and convicted child sex offender Ian Watkins has died at the age of 48 after being stabbed in prison in Yorkshire, England. He was 12 into a 29 year sentence for a series of sexual offences against children and infants, as well as possession of child and animal pornography.

Lost Prophets were formed in Pontypridd, Wales in 1997 and released five studio albums between 2000 and 2012, including UK Top 10 hits ‘Last Train Home’ and ‘Rooftops’.

The band effectively ended in late 2012 when Watkins was charged with thirteen sexual offences against children, including the attempted rape of a one-year-old girl. One senior investigator described Watkins as a “committed, organized paedophile” and “potentially the most dangerous sex offender” he had ever seen.

It was not the first time that Watkins had been attacked in prison, with him being taken hostage and stabbed by three fellow inmates in August 2023.
