Radiohead-offshoot The Smile have released “Don’t Get Me Started” on streaming platforms, a week after it was released on vinyl. The band, featuring Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood alongside drummer Tom Skinner (formerly of Sons of Kemet), had been playing the song on their tour earlier this year.
Released with the song is a a psychedelic, trippy music video directed by frequent Aphex Twin collaborator Weirdcore, the studio version is a little more ethereal and less groove-based than the live version. Electronic and skittish, it bears all the hallmarks of Thom's solo work, either under his own name or Atoms for Peace. The vinyl version was released alongside "The Slip", "Don't Get Me Started"'s more upbeat cousin, which has yet to be released on streaming platforms.
The Smile released their second studio album, Wall of Eyes, earlier this year to characteristic critical acclaim before setting off on their UK and European tours in March and June, respectively. This newest single comes less than a month after The Smile cancelled their European tour due to guitarist Jonny Greenwood becoming “seriously ill” from an infection in July.
