There's new Weezer produced by Kenny Beats!? Okay, we have to hear that.
Okay, a couple of listens in, this track is really starting to warm up to me. Because honestly, the first time I tried it, I was a little indifferent.
Even though the production is actually killer and maybe one of the best elements of the track, these are some of the gnarliest guitar tones we have heard on a Weezer track back in a minute, like since the Maladroit era.
And while there's too many methodically placed elements within the song for it to be completely live and in the moment, it does have a very kind of live, organic feel to it.
The way some of Patrick's chaotic drum fills kind of get lost in the haze of just buzzing, droning, heavy guitars.
I love the opening riff, I love Rivers' vocals, and I think the buildup on the pre-chorus is absolutely excellent.
But where the song falters for me, the more that I listen to it, is on the hook, because it just kind of feels like all that tension is built up for just so little of a release.
But for sure, quite a bit of thought went into, uh, kind of this song's meaning in terms of like, gaining purpose once again after maybe the spark or thrill of life or your existence from before that was naturally there has maybe dissipated a bit.
But yeah, very solid Weezer track for sure.
What do you think?
