Massive data leak over at Spotify, with millions of songs being pirated from the site, scraped from its database.
Pretty massive story that has been lost in the chaos of the past week, especially given it exposes a massive hypocrisy in Spotify's business model and history. Not only because as a platform, Spotify started by pretty much putting up songs it had no right legally to be putting on the internet for people to stream, just open for people to stream, just right there.
But also for this breach, Spotify is now suing for a figure that is in the trillions, basically valuing every single audio file that was stolen at over $100,000, which is funny. How exactly is Spotify deciding that's the value of this music getting stolen when you don't even pay the musicians that keep your platform relevant?
What do you think?
