Hey, everyone. Anthony Fantano here, the internet's busiest music nerd, and it's time for a retrospective single review of Jay McCarroll's "Never Come Down".
Now, the famed Canadian singer, songwriter, and producer is going to be rereleasing a remaster of this song well over a decade later because of its sustained popularity and the upcoming world tour that he's booked. But I, for one, I'm sitting here bewildered as to why this song has had so much staying power.
I mean, the whole thing just sounds like a really stale, psych, indie pop hybrid from the late 2000s. There's not really anything out there these days that is quite as hot as this song. You would think this sound would go out with the tide at this point.
And while by no means am I against a good quality classic pop anthem, can we just move on to something new?
Honestly, I just don't get the hype.
What do you think?
