New single from Steve Lacy. Exciting stuff. I really enjoyed his last record, Gemini Rights. Let's try it out.
"If I had a dollar for the friends I would fuck I could buy a pair of really nice shoes." - Steve Lacy
Oh, that was actually really cool. I mean, I will say off the bat, if you're coming into this song expecting another big Gemini Rights-style "Bad Habit" hit, I don't think this is going to be it.
But Steve Lacy is incredibly creative on this new track, bringing together some pretty unlikely elements, some spoken word vocals, some funny observations about promiscuity and desire, which I mean, there was a fair share of on Gemini Rights.
I love that sudden break into a completely different sounding soul tune on the back end, but then it has this harsh return back to the original vibe and groove and drum beat of how the song starts.
For the most part, what we have here is this linear, groovy fusion of dance music, of lofi bedroom pop, backed by a very creative use of what sounds like that Lyn Collins drum sample, that famous breakbeat sample for "Think (About It)".
Very cool, very cool creative new single from Steve Lacy, that's for sure.
