NEW STROKES ALBUM COMING

There's a new Strokes album on the way with a new single too. Let's hear it.

"Going Shopping."

Holy wow.

Um, yeah, that is a track I find both entertaining but also confusing. I mean, for one, the band sounds fantastic. The way the bass, guitars, and drums lock in is so tight. It's groovy. It's got a real dance movement to it. And I do genuinely think this is one of the Strokes' catchiest songs in a minute. Not that there weren't catchy songs on The New Abnormal, but I feel like the point of that record for the band was to maybe jam songs out a bit more and explore space and song length just a little bit more than usual, whereas "Going Shopping" here is very straightforward, very punchy.

Last thing about the track that I'll note that I was not crazy about have to be Julian's vocals. Not to say he's lost it vocally over the years, he very much hasn't. In fact, the singing performance he gives here sounds fantastic, but his use of Auto-Tune on this track is heavy-handed. And why? And usually the purpose behind behind him using it is pretty apparent, even if the end result isn't mind-blowing. And it makes that low-end croon that his voice always pulls off so well sound horrific.

So I don't know, pretty terrible production choice for a song that otherwise would be fantastic.

What do you think?
