More Bands Are Leaving Spotify

More prominent names in the indie scene are leaving Spotify and distancing themselves from streaming platforms, too.

Not only singer and songwriter Cindy Lee now, who is favoring more of a Bandcamp approach, but also post-rock heavyweights, Godspeed, You! Black Emperor. And this has actually garnered a lot of negative reactions and a lot of people who are confused, too, despite the fact that I feel like Godspeed is the least surprising of all of these recent indie artist removals from Spotify. I mean, look at the back cover of their seminal record, Yanqui U.X.O. This is not the thing you put on your album if you're not skeptical of capitalism in the music industry and the way that it ties into other much more toxic sectors of the economy, which streaming is now as well, especially with Spotify CEO Daniel Ek investing so much money into military tech, which we have gotten into on this channel before.

But part of the reason we continue to have this conversation is that every single time one of these removals happens, it seems like there's a new crowd of people out there who are just completely out of the know when it comes to everything that's bad about Spotify, and they just have no idea as to why such a removal would even happen.

What do you think?
