Hey, Anthony. It's the start of a new year. What are some artists who had a great start to their career with their debut album?
Good question. Let's find out.
Okay, I mean, Operation Doomsday, that's a really good start to MF Doom's career. Great hip hop record. I mean, not technically his start, but a good start of a new era.
Modest Mouse's debut, that's as good a start as any as far as indie rock is concerned. Really eerie, weary guitars. Isaac's vocals are great on the record, A post-rock start.
Mogwai's first album, Young Team. Incredible record. If you haven't heard this, it'll darn make you cry.
Okay, what about The Cure? What about imagining? They were just imagining. They were like, let's imagine an album and stop just imagining these boys because the boys are crying and they shouldn't cry. They don't cry. That's a good song from this.
Also, why not the debut with Gorillaz? Great debut album, although a very misunderstood one when it came out. Everybody was expecting all the songs to sound like "Clint Eastwood". They didn't. As a result, people were like, "What's going on here?" In retrospect, it's actually quite a smart and versatile and colorful debut album.
But yeah, debut albums.
What do you think?
