Okay, music quiz. Do you know who John Lennon and the Beatles are? I will give you guys a second to answer that question in the comments below. Are you aware of John Lennon and the Beatles? Go. Okay, hopefully you said yes, because according to a new interview with Sean Ono Lennon, John Lennon's son, is worried that new generations, and you guys, have no clue who the Beatles are.
"Make sure that the younger generation doesn't forget about the Beatles and Johnny, and Yoko. That's how I look at it," Ono Lennon said.
"Do you think that's even possible? To forget about it?" The interviewer asked.
"I do, actually, and I never did before," Ono Lennon responded. "I mean, recently, I don't know if you saw, there was a viral video clip of Ringo walking through someone's stream, but this young guy was like, 'Who is that?' And his string was saying, 'You don't know who that is? That's Beatle Ringo.' And he was like, 'I don't know who Beatle Ringo is.' Some people don't know."
Which, yeah, I don't know. Seems maybe not so real of a possibility, in my opinion. I don't know. I mean, sure, it is true. As a music commentator, it does seem like music literacy and music history literacy is at a bit of an all-time low. However, when it comes to music from the '60s and '70s, John Lennon and the Beatles are among some of the most celebrated, widely publicized, and critiqued, and referenced artists ever. If people are forgetting about John Lennon and the Beatles, it is most likely because they're suffering from amnesia, preventing them from being aware of basically anything that happened during that decade, which, if that happens, we are then talking about a much wider, broader issue. In the big year, 2025, people still very much remember the Velvet Underground & Nico somehow. I think the Beatles are going to be okay.
What do you think?
