Iconic Texas rock outfit ZZ Top has had one of the most consistent lineups in music history. From 1970 to 2021, the band was made up of Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard. Sadly, the latter passed away on August 17, at the age of 77. No cause of death has been disclosed.
Beard died at his ranch in Texas surrounded by family members, five years after bassist Hill's death. Gibbons shared a statement which read, in part, "His signature backbeat was key to keeping ZZ on top. The band of which he was part for six decades is going to keep on keeping on as he had wished."
Beard's health caused the Texan trio to cancel their Hollywood Bowl date on August 5, and two shows this week are canceled as well. The band have been playing with Michael Monahan filling in for Beard at recent concerts.
ZZ Top will resume performances this weekend at Austin City Limits.
