Canadian psychedelic artist Yves Jarvis shares one last single ahead of his new album All Cylinders coming out February 28 via In Real Life.
This new single "Decision Tree" is one of the many road songs on the record. The track is about an existential fork in the road - “forging ahead through the unforeseeable outcomes of each choice,” as Jarvis puts it. Jarvis claims to take inspiration from Eric Weinstein, The Jackson 5 and Scritti Politti on this track.
Listen to the song below:
All Cylinders is the latest work from one of Montreal's most exciting up-and-coming artists. The record is textured in sound and shines like gold - the ultimate introduction to Yves Jarvis, the moniker of Jean-Sébastien Yves Audet. This isn't Jarvis' first album, but it is his most direct and vulnerable piece of work yet.
The record was written, recorded, and produced entirely by Jarvis without a single other contributor. This is where the title of the album comes from - a reference to an automobile's engine, capable of powering a vehicle all on its own. This solitary style of work is what makes this album singularly Yves Jarvis. It's how he was able to make his vision into a cosmic auditory anthology.
“I feel like this is the least contrived thing I’ve ever done,” Jarvis declares. Lyrics that matter. Vocals up front, where people will actually hear them. “If something’s true to you, it’s probably true to a million other people.”
As always, Yves Jarvis is distinguished by his sound—a warm, vivid thing that feels at once like a handknit piece of fabric and a sheet of precious metal. All Cylinders smashes together an array of influences: Serge Gainsbourg, Judee Sill, Sheryl Crow, Captain Beefheart, Jackson Browne, Throbbing Gristle, Ray Charles, Brian Eno, Fleetwood Mac, and Panic at the Disco. Jarvis takes these influences and distils them into tracks that feel like taking sips from a cup or drags from a cigarette.
