Californian experimental rockers Xiu Xiu announced plans to release Eraserhead Xiu Xiu, a sonic and visual exploration of David Lynch's 1977 film Eraserhead due out July 10 via Polyvinyl.
The trio's first single for the album, "In Heaven," is a cover of the beloved song originally written by Peter Ivers, with lyrics from Lynch, performed by Laurel Near's character the Lady in the Radiator, and heavily featured in the film.
A video collage for the cover is available below:
Music played and recorded by Angela Seo and Jamie Stewart, and mastered by Alan Douches, Eraserhead Xiu Xiu is a deeper dive into the Lynch universe.
A decade ago, with the blessing of Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti, Xiu Xiu released and toured Plays the Music of Twin Peaks. Out of respect, the band put the surprisingly successful album and concert to rest in 2018.
After the unfortunate passing of the filmmaker, Xiu Xiu began receiving high-profile offers to revive their interpretation. Instead of continuing in the "Twin Peaks" universe, the band is finding new inspiration from the Lynchverse.
