The 22-year-old New York rapper Xaviersobased operates somewhere between a few different styles: trap, plugg, his own "jerk" sound, and hints that hyperpop and digicore could be his next frontier. Fresh off the release of his first real album – the major-label full-length debut Xavier – he's already got more surprises waiting.
He's just dropped a new song called "Party at My Place", which features Dylan Brady (of 100 gecs fame) and special-effects specialist Skrillex, who collectively give Xav a warped, arcade-like beat to sound off over and get his vocals chopped up. Sonically it's in line with both Skrillex's synthier efforts and the blaring distortion of rage-rap, not to mention 100 gecs' blown-out dynamics, and it's encouraging that it's one of the more adventurous things Xav has done.
