Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Régine Chassagne have announced that they are separating after 20 years of marriage. The news was announced via the band’s Instagram account on Thursday, October 3, stating:
"After a long and loving marriage, Win & Régine have decided to separate. They continue to love, admire and support each other as they co-parent their son. Their work in Haiti with KANPE continues and their bond as creative soulmates will endure, as will Arcade fire. The band send their love and look forward to seeing you all on tour soon."
Butler and Chassagne have been married since 2003 and share a son who was born in 2013. The message also seems to suggest the band plans to tour in the near future. Their latest album, Pink Elephant, was released May 9, 2025.
Butler was accused of sexual misconduct in 2022 by multiple people, according to a report by Pitchfork. Butler acknowledged having sexual relations with the people involved, but claimed that those relationships were consensual and his wife was aware of them. “The majority of these relationships were short lived, and my wife is aware,” he wrote in a statement to Pitchfork. “Our marriage has, in the past, been more unconventional than some.”
In an accompanying statement by Chassagne, she said, “I know what is in his heart, and I know he has never, and would never, touch a woman without her consent….He has lost his way and he has found his way back. I love him and love the life we have created together.”
