TMZ reports that Jillian Lauren — author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner — was shot by police and later arrested for attempted murder after a chaotic hit-and-run incident in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

According to authorities, the incident began when three suspects fled a freeway hit-and-run in the Eagle Rock area. One suspect abandoned his car and ran through a residential neighborhood, shedding clothing in an apparent attempt to blend in.

As officers searched the area, LAPD says they encountered Lauren in the backyard of her home, next door to where the suspect had fled. She reportedly emerged with a gun and refused multiple commands to drop it. Police say she pointed the weapon at officers, prompting them to open fire. Lauren was struck in the shoulder.

She retreated into her house, but eventually surrendered alongside her babysitter about 30 minutes later. A 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene.

Lauren was treated for a non-life-threatening injury before being booked for attempted murder. The original suspect was apprehended; the other two remain at large.

Notably, Weezer is scheduled to perform at Coachella this Saturday, April 12.

No comment yet from Weezer or Shriner.
