Less than a month after surprising fans in Portland, OR with a festival set including a wealth of new material, Big Thief debuted yet another new song, 'Taker", at a show in Belgium last week (14 August).
Watch fan footage of the performance below (song starts at 2:10):
The performance at the Rivierenhof open-air theatre was the band's only headline show in a short run of European festivals this month. It's their first tour with new bassist Justin Felton, who stepped in to replace Max Oleartchik after his departure from the band "for interpersonal reasons" was announced in early July. Felton also plays in L'Rain's band and has released solo material under the name of Strugglin'.
The new Big Thief touring ensemble also includes Jon Nellen on second drumkit. Nellen has previously played in Lenker's solo band, and his band ginla's 2022 album Everything featured a guest appearance from Lenker on the song "Carousel".
Earlier this month, Lenker shared previously unreleased track "Once a Bunch", recorded during the sessions for her 2024 solo album, Bright Future.
Big Thief have just one more show left on the current European tour. They play the Canela Party festival in Torremolinos, Spain, on Thursday (22 August).
