Vince Staples has announced his seventh studio album, Cry Baby, which will be released on June 5 via his independent company, Section Eight Arthouse. It is 35 minutes long and has 10 songs.
The announcement arrives one day after the release of lead single "Blackberry Marmalade," in tandem with a striking, politically charged music video. Watch below:
The Compton-native has responded to fans arguing about the sound direction of the new song, pointing them to his 2014 EP Hell Can Wait, "All you #newbooties mad about the sound would’ve hated me in 2013 but that’s before yall was off the porch. “Blackberry Marmalade” on streaming next week, until then, stream “Hell Can Wait”."
Rock, Punk, Post-Punk, Grunge, New Wave, Indie Rock, and so on and so forth are all different, but they all come from the Cracka tryna be James Brown. Blackberry Marmalade arrives on all streaming services tomorrow.
