Iconic English folk singer/songwriter Vashti Bunyan has announced a special 20th anniversary edition of her 2005 album Lookaftering. The record will be released in a new, expanded, 2xLP gatefold release. It will be released February 7, via longtime label FatCat.

The new edition comes with the 2001 demo of "If I Were", which you can listen to below:

In addition to the extra songs, the anniversary release comes with new liner notes from producer Max Richter (who also contributed various instruments to the record), friend and fellow musician Devendra Banhart (who plays guitar on "Wayward"), FatCat’s Dave Howell, and Bunyan herself. The 16-page lyric book also comes accompanied by paintings from Bunyan's daughter, Whyn Lewis.

In a statement, Banhart said:

"'Lookaftering' is a quiet prayer for a world left behind, a remembrance of a world that could have been but never was, a Lookforwarding to a world that may yet still be… As ethereal and haunted as these eleven songs may be, they are also rooted in the earthly magic of wisdom born from experience. Something so rare and honest it’s nearly otherworldly in its total human-ness."

The anniversary nearly coincides with Bunyan's 80th birthday. In looking back, Bunyan says, "The beautiful photograph of Max in the studio playing wine glasses with his young daughter’s violin bow, brings it all back to me – how very fortunate I have been."

After releasing her landmark debut record, 1970's Just Another Diamond Day, Bunyan disappeared from the music business until 2005 with Lookaftering, which also features Joanna Newsom on harp on two songs. Since then, she also released a third album – 2014's Heartleap – and put out an autobiography in 2022, Wayward: Just Another Life to Live.
