Valerie June announces new album 'Owls, Omens, and Oracles', shares first single

Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Valerie June is back with a brand new album. Owls, Omens, and Oracles, the singer's sixth album (and followup to 2021's The Moon and Stars: Prescriptions for Dreamers) is out April 11 via Concord Records.

Watch the Taylor Washington-directed video for first single "Jo,! Joy!" below:

Of the new song, June says:

“Everyone has felt moments of darkness, depression, anxiety, stress, ailments, or pain. Some say it takes mud to have a lotus flower. This song reflects on the hard times we might face: to fail, to fall, to lose, to be held down, to be silenced, to be shut out yet still hold onto a purely innocent and childlike joy. I come from a heritage of ancestors who lived this truth by inventing blues music. Generations aer they’ve gone, the inner joy they instilled in us radiates and lifts cultures throughout the world. From the world to home, what would a city council focused on inspiring inner joy for all of a town’s citizens look like? As the times are changing across the planet, what would it look like to collectively activate our superpowers of joy?”

The new album from June – known for her distinctive voice and her blending of folk, bluegrass, Americana, and country – was produced by M. Ward, and features contributions from Blind Boys of Alabama, Norah Jones, and DJ Cavem Moetavation.

On working with Ward, June says it was a mission for the two to work together, explaining, "One of the things I enjoy about listening to M. Ward's music is that he's an incredibly amazing guitar player. While he can shred and rock, he also 'gets' the blues. After sitting in with him for those live sets, we vowed to work together one day on a record."

Additionally, June will be heading out on tour this spring, beginning in Pennsylvania and winding up in Washington. Find all dates below.
