TV On the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe signs to Sub Pop, announces solo debut

In the wake of news that famed indie band TV On the Radio's are soon returning to the stage, frontman Tunde Adebimpe has announced he's also staking out on his own. Adebimpe is gearing up to release his as-yet-untitled debut solo LP via Sub Pop next year, and with this announcement comes his first solo single, "Magnetic".

Sub Pop's cofounder Jonathan Poneman had this to say about the signing:

"We heartily welcome Tunde Adebimpe to Sub Pop’s roster of artists. His inclusion makes the whole lot better – and a whole lot classier! We’ve waited 20-plus years for Sub Pop to earn the chance to be Tunde Adebimpe’s label."

The shows that TV On the Radio announced for November and December of this year sold out extremely quickly, though the band promised more are on the horizon – including an announced spot at next year's Primavera Sound in Spain. The band's last album was 2014's Seeds.

Adebimpe has remained busy, mostly doing film work; earlier this year he co-starred in Twisters. He's recently voiced a character in the animated series Strange Planet, and is slated to co-star in a new Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, set to premiere in December. Additionally, he is a composer for the animated kids show City Island.
