Trey Songz to pay police officer $11m for battery

A Las Vegas judge has ordered R&B singer Trey Songz to cough up over $11 million in a decision following a 2021 battery case.

Tyrelle Dunn, a Maryland Capitol police officer, accused Songz of assaulting his wife following the singer's 37th birthday party in Vegas at Drai's Nightclub.

Songz, real name Tremaine Neverson, allegedly brought a group of women back to his hotel room at The Cosmopolitan, including Dunn's wife, who Dunn claims was held in a room against her will and assaulted.

“Plaintiff’s wife was escorted by Defendant security personnel to room 6014 where she was told she would meet Trey Songz,” the lawsuit alleged. “That while in room 6014, plaintiff’s wife was assaulted, tried to leave, and had her phone taken away.”

Dunn claims that he was attacked by Neverson and his security in an attempt to rescue his wife after hearing her screams for help.

The police officer sued Neverson for medical expenses, as well as punitive and emotional duress after Las Vegas authorities decided to not file charges due to insufficient evidence, following their investigation of the 2021 incident.

The singer was served a summons at his California home in August 2023 but never responded, resulting in a default judgment entered against him.

Judge Jacob Reynolds ordered Neverson to pay $11.2 million in a judgment on Oct. 10, which included nearly $28,000 for medical expenses, $5 million for pain and suffering, $5 million for punitive damages, and $1.2 million for prejudgement interest, according to TMZ.

Dunn suffered fractures to both eye sockets, sustained injuries to his face, nose, stomach, ribs, head, and ears, and missed more than a month of work due to his condition, stated the affidavit.

Songz has faced a mountain of sexual assault allegations and legal issues, including a June 2023 incident captured on video and a 2016 rape accusation, which the singer settled for $25 million.
