Tracy Chapman sings praises of buying albums over streaming

Elusive and legendary singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman, known for hits such as "Fast Car", expressed her dislike for streaming in a recent New York Times interview. "Someone's going to call me a Luddite, but I don't stream music," Chapman revealed.

"Artists get paid when you actually buy a CD or the vinyl. That's important to me," Chapman declared. Despite this sentiment, Chapman's music can be streamed on platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify.

Elsewhere in the interview, Chapman stated her appreciation for some of the women that won Grammy Awards this year, including Chappell Roan and Charli XCX. As for a tour – the musician has not embarked on one since 2009 – she explained that "if [she] were to tour, [she] would tour for something new," hinting at new material to follow 2008's Our Bright Future.

"Whenever someone asks 'what's your favorite song?' It's always the one I'm writing at the time," Chapman said.

The singer's self-titled debut album has been newly reissued 37 years after its debut, and you can purchase it here.
