Total Wife are giving their innovative shoegaze, experimental electronic record come back down another “come up,” if you will. The duo has announced their upcoming EP, come.back.down.x.recovery, set to release on October 9 via Julia’s War Recordings.

The Nashville-based musicians released a new video and single today, titled “make.it.last.x.full.body.2.recovery,” to accompany their EP announcement. Watch below:

The visualizer, created by co-composer Ash Richter, plays on nostalgia, opening with saturated Pokémon gameplay and switching between B-roll of a city filmed on a camcorder and polygon graphics. The single is eerie and glitchy — perfectly matching the visuals and adding another interesting layer to the single.

Total Wife member Luna Kupper recounts the hard drive for come back down getting ruined and the whole record being lost, along with half of the remix and several other projects she was recording. In a press release, Kupper says:

“Almost every file was a rotted screaming mass of different sounds and tracks digi-melted together as if the hard drive did a harsh noise remix of itself. Any sort of remix would’ve been impossible until I discovered a dusty old drive containing half-finished versions of some come back down songs.”

The recoverable songs are featured on the EP and were resurrected by the artists featured on the record, including the likes of Winter, They Are Gutting a Body of Water, Astrobrite, and Scott Cortez of Lovesliescrushing.
