The Tomorrowland festival draws thousands of techno and electronic acts each year to Boom, Belgium. Tragedy, however, has struck the grounds – a fire has consumed the main stage.
For reasons that remain unclear at press time (though some are blaming a pyrotechnical malfunction), fire began to raze Tomorrowland's primary stage around noon EST on July 16th; subsequently, Belgian news outlet VRT declared the stage "almost completely destroyed." The premises has been evacuated, with firefighters unable to reign in the blaze. Residents in the area have been told to keep their houses sealed.
Luckily, no injuries have been reported among the roughly 1,000 employees working the grounds. No fans had yet arrived when disaster struck. Tomorrowland, which has such acts as David Guetta and Charlotte de Witte on this year's lineup, has yet to verify whether a cancellation or continuation will occur.
An update posted to the festival's website says, in part, that the DreamVille campsite will open on July 17th as planned, while solutions for the weekend are still being debated.
