Timothée Chalamet credits Lil B for his successful acting career

Today is actor Timothée Chalamet's birthday and he's 29 now. But back in 2012, when he was only 16, the man who's currently starring as titan-among-titans Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown (out just days ago) had an experience that he claims rerouted the course of his life. And in 2012, that could only mean one thing: meeting face-to-face with eccentric rapper/early meme adopter Lil B.

Chalamet revealed his story of meeting the BasedGod to famed, pretty-quirky-himself interviewer Nardwuar the Human Serviette during an hour-long conversation over record shopping in Santa Monica.

“I had $50 from a commercial I did, I bribed a kid to give me his ticket,” Chalamet told Nardwuar. “I was in there alone, you know, front row to the right. I raised my hand, I got called on by him, told him I was going to ask out a crush. He invited me on stage and he knighted me. And honestly, he said, ‘That boy’s hands been blessed,’ and from there, my acting career took off. Thank you, BasedGod. I was struggling before that, basically just done Royal Pains, and, you know, I was nominated for an Oscar by the time I was 22.”

Knighted. Anyone named Kevin Durant can tell you that having Lil B alter your fortunes can be very serious, as the rapper put a hex on the basketball player in 2011 and didn't lift the curse until five years later. Chalamet even credited Lil B for trailblazing against homophobia in rap: “Lil B is a hugely formative artist in my life and career. He dropped an album called I’m Gay, and the rollout was very ambiguous about his sexuality or the meaning of the album. I was just inspired about the sense that, wow, this guy’s just doing whatever the fuck he wants.” Lil B has since responded. Positively, natch.
