Tim Kasher (Cursive, The Good Life) announces new album 'Sponges of Experience'

Ricky Adams

Tim Kasher, the frontman of Cursive and The Good Life, as well as a prolific solo artist, is back with a unique new project titled Sponges of Experience, out May 22 via Born Losers Records. Notably, the album won’t be available on streaming platforms.

Alongside the announcement, Kasher has released two tracks from the album, “The Dying Animal” and “The Collapse”. If you’re a fan of his work across any of his projects, these will feel right at home. Check them out:

The project stems from an experiment within Kasher’s home phone Patreon group. Inspired by Elvis Costello once claiming he could write an album over a weekend, Kasher decided to put that idea to the test himself. He set out to record Sponges of Experience over the course of four days during Memorial Day weekend 2025, sharing the entire process, including the challenges and progress, directly with his Patreon community.

Kasher had this to say about the experience:

"Hey, you. This album was written over the 4-day weekend of Memorial Day, 2025. It was a challenge to myself: when I was a wee teenager, I heard Elvis Costello mention on some talk show (I’ve long forgotten which) that he could write an album over a weekend. It was an offhand remark, a throwaway line as he was promoting something or other. As I had already become a prolific writer myself, I was curious if I could pull off something of the sort. Fast forward to 35-odd years later, I decided to give it a shot. I offered myself FOUR days rather than just the two, and perhaps that’s a cheat, but since it was Memorial Day weekend I decided to allow it. As it turned out, I absolutely needed those extra two days."
