Alternative rock band Throwing Muses are back with a new album and tour. Moonlight Concessions, out March 13 via Fire, is the band's 11th studio album. It was produced by lead singer, songwriter, guitarist Kristin Hersh, and is being billed as a "back to basics" record for the group. As usual, the record also features Dave Narcizo on drums and Bernard Georges on bass.
Listen to the lead single, "Summer of Love", below, accompanied by the Samuele Gottardello-directed video.
According to the band, although the LP was recorded in Rhode Island, the songs were written in places on the Gulf Coast and in southern California. As Hersh explains:
"In New Orleans the stars look greenish-blue, as it’s below sea level and swamp-lit. But on Moonlight Beach, they glow icy white. All these songs were written in these two glowy places, which helped our sonic technique find itself."
Throwing Muses have been releasing music since 1986, when Hersh was still a teenager. They released music consistently until 1996's Limbo, after which they only released three albums between them and 2020. Hersh herself has had a prolific solo career, ranging from 1993's Hips and Makers to last year's Clear Pond Road. The band also initially featured Tanya Donnelly (Hersh's stepsister), who went on to co-found The Breeders with Kim Deal, as well the band Belly.
