The Rolling Stones release vinyl-exclusive new single

Iconic British rockers The Rolling Stones have released a new single, "Rough and Twisted," out now as a "white label" vinyl exclusive.

Listen below:

Per British newspaper The Times, the song serves as a preview for the classic rock icons yet-to-be-titled 25th album, which follows 2023's Hackney Diamonds.

As rock and pop critic Will Hodgkinson puts it, the track is "classic Stones: a killer riff, a rambunctious harmonica solo from Mick Jagger, a devil-may-care spirit and the feeling that, six decades on from first crawling out of a notoriously squalid flat in Edith Grove, southwest London, to play the blues in smoke-clogged pubs and clubs along the Surrey Delta, the Rolling Stones are still a chaotic bar band forever on the verge of collapse, happiest in the most low-down dives."

Hodgkinson says the new album, once again produced by Andrew Watt, will come out sometime in July. It is rumored to be titled Foreign Tongues.

Back in 1977, the Stones jammed under the alter ego The Cockroaches for a pair of intimate shows at Toronto's El Mocambo club. Some of those performances ended up on 1977's Love You Live and 2022's Live at the El Mocambo.

Present day, the Cockroaches launched a website featuring a countdown to 1:40 p.m. April 11, with a Cockroaches record encased in a white sleeve and a cork board with ticket stubs and a postcard from Natchez, Mississippi.

Natchez, an important stop on the Mississippi Blues Trail, is a callback to the band's reverence for Delta blues.

The website also detailed GPS coordinates for records stores selling the very limited-edition single, and those copies are all gone by this point.

"Rough and Twisted" is not available on streaming services, but a few Stones fans came in clutch and posted videos of the single playing on their turntables.
