The Mars Volta announce short U.S. tour, pulling from full catalog

The Mars Volta have announced a brief U.S. tour, performing songs from across their career.

Set to kick off September 8 in Ventura, California, this short U.S. tour includes a hometown return to El Paso, plus dates in Orlando and Charlotte, before things wrap on September 20 at Louisville’s Louder Than Life festival, a slot that had already been announced but now doubles as the tour’s closing statement.

There’s also a notable detour: the band will appear as special guests for My Chemical Romance on September 12 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. It’s a pairing that, on paper, reads like chaos, but in practice, could end up being one of the more interesting live crossovers of the year.

Ticket-wise, artist pre-sale opens Wednesday, April 8 at 10 am local time, with general on-sale following Friday, April 10, also at 10 am, through Ticketmaster.

09/08 Ventura, CA @ The Majestic Ventura Theater
09/09 Tucson, AZ @ La Rosa
09/10 El Paso, TX @ Abraham Chavez Theatre
09/12 San Antonio, TX @ Alamodome
09/15 Charlotte, NC @ Neighborhood Theatre
09/16 Charleston, SC @ Charleston Music Hall
09/17 Orlando, FL @ Hard Rock Live
09/18 Jacksonville, FL @ Five
09/20 Louisville, KY @ Louder Than Life

What really sets this run apart, though, is the setlist direction. If you caught them last year, you’ll remember the band leaning hard into a full-album performance of Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos Del Vacio. This time around, they’re loosening the structure and pulling from across their entire catalog.
