With their first new album of original material in nearly 20 years due to drop this fall on Fire Records (their last two, Varshons 1 and 2, were covers albums), The Lemonheads have announced the June 13 release of a limited-edition 12” single featuring new punk-pop track “Deep End” and a cover of Townes van Zandt’s “Sad Cinderella” on the B-side. Both songs will feature on the upcoming album Love Chant, and are available digitally today.
Co-written by the band’s Evan Dando and Tom Morgan of Smudge, “Deep End” features Juliana Hatfield on backing vocals and guitar riffs courtesy of Dinosaur Jr’s J Mascis. Hatfield also guests on "Sad Cinderella", channeling her inner Emmylou.

Besides the title of the LP and these two new songs, not much is known about Love Chant at present. In a recent interview with Australian publication beat, Dando described the record as "really free," "really soulful," and "really plain and good." He also confirmed that his long-in-the-works memoir has finally been completed and delivered to publishers Simon & Schuster – release date TBD.
Dando and The Lemonheads kick off the final leg of their current tour tonight in Melbourne, Australia, but they’ll be back on the road across Europe from mid-August through to the end of September. Full list of dates below:
