Following the announcement of his debut solo album Loud Bloom earlier this month, The Knife's Olof Dreijer has shared a video for lead track "Echoed Dafnino", which features the voice and lyrics of Cairo-based Sudanese singer MaMan.
Filmed with Brazilian creative director and costume designer Suelem De Oliveira Da Silva and cinematographer Aline Belfort, the video confirms that Dreijer is doing exactly what he said he would with Loud Bloom: centering fun after a decade spent behind the scenes in self-imposed seriousness. “After taking a break I’m very happy to have arrived at allowing myself to just have fun with my own music again,” he says.

Elaborating on the video concept in a press release, De Oliveira says:
"I’m fascinated about different cultures and I wanted to implement that in the video. My wish was to bring a pulse of Brazilian energy into the techno world, not through clichés, but through something more playful. It’s about warmth, movement that carries you, and a sense of community that pulls people in. Techno spaces can be minimal and controlled, and I’m not trying to fight that but I wanted to soften it, open it up, and let something more expressive breathe within it. The tone should feel bold, but never distant; welcoming, but still strong. Expressive in a way that feels honest, never forced."
Dreijer has a bunch of DJ set appearances coming up, with further live dates to be announced later:
03/28 Manchester, UK @ Pink Room
04/03 London, UK @ The Distillery
05/21 New York, NY @ Public Records
07/31 Amsterdam, NL @ Dekmantel Festival *
