The Faint, the legendary dance-punk synth outfit from Omaha’s Saddle Creek Records era, have surprise dropped a new song, “Projector Project!”, exclusively on Bandcamp, marking their first new music since 2019’s Egowork.

From the first listen, there’s no mistaking it: this is pure Faint. The track barrels forward with their signature head-bopping pace, distorted vocals, and infectious energy—a full-on kick to those 2000s nostalgia pants (which were probably tight as hell).

Frontman Todd Fink had this to say about the new song and whether it might be part of a new album:

We’re excited to regretfully inform you that we just put a new song on Bandcamp today!!!— and nowhere else yet. ((Link in today’s story)) It’s a race to the bottom, so our new music is FREE! Of course, if you have money, we’d love to share it with you.;) It’s great to see so much support for the idea of a full album. A long-form artistic statement with a cohesive vision, that’s satisfying — but from where I stand, they never seem especially coherent until they’re finished. The stories about artists who map out a concept and execute it exactly? Count me skeptical. I’m not sure that’d even be very artistic. (Seems better to allow a project to develop, doesn’t it?). I’m certainly not trying to piss on anyone’s salad, but maybe albums sound cohesive because the band is in the same mindset during a particular span of time — and that shared mindset is what pulls it all together? For the same reason, I’ve always thought bands should make their own cover art (regardless of skill). Anyways, however they come about, the experience of sitting down to really listen to an album is criminally underrated. We’re looking forward to making one soon, but for now here’s a new song that we’ll be playing in the upcoming US tour. We have no idea if this song or any version of it will go on an album.
