The Cure’s WhatsApp channel for their forthcoming album Songs of a Lost World has come to life today with a 13-second instrumental clip of a new song “alone” distributed to members, along with an invitation to “discover more” at the band's new website.

Visiting songsofalost.world and unlocking the content with the album release date I-XI-MMXXIV (1 November 2024) leads to a longer clip featuring some of bandleader Robert Smith’s vocals with a single line of lyrics, “this is the end of every song we sing”. A stone head, believed to be the new album artwork, rotates in the background.

Yesterday, the band teased a video clip of the same stone head projected onto various locations around Smith’s birthplace of Blackbool in Lancashire, suggesting that the band might be gearing up to play a show in the city. An Instagram post provided the coordinates for the Blackpool Tower, which is home to concert venue the Empress Ballroom.

The rotating head has also been spotted in New York.

Watch a live version of "alone" from The Cure's Shows of a Lost World Tour, filmed at Greenwood Village, CO last summer.
