DJ, radio host, and Dua Lipa remixer Marea Stamper, aka The Blessed Madonna, has been building anticipation for her debut album, Godspeed, over the past year or so, with a string of club-ready singles featuring guest artists including Danielle Ponder, Gabriels' Jacob Lusk, Clementine Douglas, and DJ E-Clyps. For her latest track, though, she's brought out the big guns with the voice of megawatt popstar Kylie Minogue.
The Kylie-featuring "Edge of Saturday Night" hit streaming platforms on 14 August, and now there's a new Sophie Muller-directed video to go with it. Shot at the famous Pikes Hotel in Ibiza, where Wham! made their "Club Tropicana" video in 1983 and where Queen's Freddie Mercury held a notoriously epic birthday party four years later, the video shows Stamper and Minogue partying in Mercury's old room, in the micro-club space named in his honour (Freddie's), and ending up in the hotel pool. Watch below:
Writing in the press release, Stamper says:
"When Jin Jin, Raye and I wrote 'Edge of Saturday Night', we always talked about what the video would be like. We wanted it to feel like a real night out. When the time came (aka Kylie arrived!), our wish came true and we properly took over the legendary Pikes in Ibiza and went absolutely wild in Freddie Mercury’s bedroom. There wasn’t a script, or a giant plan. We just showed up and let it happen. Naturally by 3am we were jumping in the pool, fully satisfied that the party was complete."
"Edge of Saturday Night" made its live debut last Sunday (18 August) when Minogue brought Stamper out on stage during her headlining slot at Ireland's Electric Picnic festival.
In the press release for the single, Minogue spoke of the "total joy" she felt about the "unforgettable moment" of shooting the video with Stamper, saying "[I] am so happy the excitement and energy of this hot August club adventure was captured in the video."
Listen to a snippet of their recent appearance on BBC Radio 1 to discuss the making of the track:
